Saturday marks the end of this year’s Glorious Goodwood festival and the week has been jam packed with shock winners and superstar performers.
The action isn’t over yet though and there’s still one more day to get through, with ITV Racing covering four of the day’s races from the popular West Sussex racecourse. Here, we’ll preview each race in the hopes we can find you some winners. Keep reading for our top tips.
1.50 – Coral Stewards’ Sprint Handicap
A wide open handicap to kick things off here in the first race, which is the consolation race to the Stewards’ Cup being run later in the day. Of the runners here, it’s Zaman Jemil who appeals most for trainers Harry and Roger Charlton. The three year old had a decent enough seasonal reappearance and won at Thirsk last time out. The conditions aren’t a concern and he can take advantage of the weight being received from Tajalla, who is the main danger to the selection.
2.25 – Coral Summer Handicap
Another big field handicap to leave us scratching our heads, but the vote goes to HMS President in this contest. Alan King’s experienced six year old is one of only a few to have actually won at Goodwood in the past and his form figures this term read 212 so far. That win was the only one over this 1m6f distance in which he beat the reopposing Adjuvant and Torcello. They both have a bit more of an advantage at the weights, but the feeling is that Rossa Ryan is getting a good tune out this horse and with the conditions another plus, he can add another victory to his already impressive form.
3.00 – Qatar Lillie Langtry Stakes
This is a fascinating renewal that should go the way of Frankie Detorri’s mount Free Wind. The talented mare has very good form in the book already, with wins in multiple graded races. The key piece of form in relation to this race is her Lancashire Oaks win at Haydock last year. Not much went her way in that race but, in difficult conditions, she managed to work her way to the front and won going away at the line. She ran a bit flat in the Hardwicke at Royal Ascot, so a line can be put through that. The step back up in trip could be exactly what’s needed to return to winning ways.
3.35 – Coral Stewards’ Cup
Orazio put in an under par performance in the Wokingham at Royal Ascot, with a few reopposing horses here finishing in front of him. Despite that, he was still less than three lengths from the eventual winner and closed late on. The going was a bit quicker then and the more testing conditions this time around definitely swing things back in the selection’s favour. His two previous runs were good handicap wins at Newmarket and Ascot with plenty of cut in the ground. In similar conditions here, he’s expected to prosper.
