Arsenal welcome their North London rivals Tottenham to the Emirates Stadium in one of four 2pm Premier League kick offs on Sunday.
The Gunners come into this one having played PSV in the Champions League on Wednesday. Mikel Arteta’s men ran out convincing 4-0 winners in a comprehensive return to Europe’s elite competition. Spurs have had a full week to prepare, having not qualified for any European tournaments this season. So they should be well rested and raring to go for this one.
We’ll preview this London derby and provide you with some betting predictions that we hope can land you some tidy returns.
Title contenders
Having led the charge for most of last season, Arsenal fell away in the final couple of months to lose the title to Manchester City. That wound will still be fresh, but they’ve given themselves a good chance to challenge for the title again this season and remain unbeaten so far. Their four wins and one draw sees them just two points behind leaders City at the top of the Premier League table.
After a turbulent summer, which saw them lose captain Harry Kane and bring in new manager Ange Postecoglou, Spurs have also made an impressive start to their campaign. They’re also unbeaten up to this point, with four wins and a draw, but have notably scored more goals than their local rivals. That should give them plenty of confidence that they can get something out of this game.
Pivotal game
Although we are so early into this season, this already feels like it could be a pivotal game for either side should they win it. For Arsenal, it will help them maintain their momentum as they look to make up for last season’s disappointment. For Spurs, this is their opportunity to show that they aren’t a one man club and this new regime is ready to challenge at the very top, which is what their fans want and expect from them.
It’s Arsenal who have the better form in this fixture over the last couple of seasons. In the last four meetings between the clubs, The Gunners have won three, with Spurs winning the other. In that time, Arsenal have scored eight goals to Tottenham’s five. This is a new era for the visitors though and with some very shrewd additions to the squad in the summer, this could be the point at which the tide turns in North London.
Competitive game
Whatever happens, this one is set up to be an entertaining and competitive game between two sides who fancy themselves as title contenders this season. It’s hard to say which way this one will go, but both teams will see this as a must win if they are to sustain a challenge at the top. They’re both capable of scoring goals, so expect plenty of those here.
